Rebel, an actress, writer, and producer, was born March 2,1980 in Sydney Australia. You would never know it now, but she was painfully shy as a child.
With the help of her mother, who actually forced her to go to a community acting class with the hope that would help, and her high school drama teacher, Mrs. Bowman, whom Rebel credits for helping her get to where she is today, Rebel pushed herself to overcome what she felt was a character flaw. She joined her high school debate club in an effort to help her overcome her shyness and to speak up more.
At age 17, Rebel Wilson contracted Malaria during a trip to South Africa with a youth ambassador program. In a fever-ridden hallucination, she dreamed about winning an Oscar. That was when acting became her priority. Wilson then attended University and graduated from Australian Theater in 2003, which is where she discovered her love of stage acting.
Her initial stage experience was life-changing. She thought she was playing a serious role, but when stepping on the stage the crowd started laughing. The angrier Rebel became, the more they laughed! Rebel Wilson’s first movie was playing Toula in an Australian comedy called Fat Pizza. She also starred in an Australian comedy TV Series called The Wedge. In 2008, Rebel wrote, as well as produced and starred in the musical comedy series Bogan Pride. Shortly after moving to the United States, she was cast as Brynn in her first feature film Bridesmaids. Rebel was quickly working her way into the hearts of millions of fans around the world.
Rebel Wilson is confident, funny, and an advocate for self-acceptance. She gained critical recognition and a major boost to her career through her role in Pitch Perfect as the funny and candid Fat Amy, and will next be seen starring alongside Liam Hemsworth and Priyanka Chopra in the upcoming romantic comedy Isn’t It Romantic, which is set for release in February 2019.
